I am using cPanel for my website data management. It does not matter if you are using any other CMS tool, the process is the same.

First, you need to login to your admin panel to find the htaccess file for your website. If you have installed WordPress and you want to find the htaccess file for your WordPress CMS, it would be a bit different.
It means that WordPress websites work as a subdomain on your website if not installed on your root directory.
I’ll show you how can you find the .htaccess files for both
- For WordPress (if not root directory)
- For Others
Before we continue, you should know that the .htaccess file is hidden by default and this is probably the reason why you were not able to access it.
As the name suggests, .htaccess has a dot “.” in the prefix. It means the file is hidden. Any file that you come across with a dot prefix is a hidden file.
You can go to the Admin Panel > File Manager and then locate your root directory. It is generally public_html unless you have set it up otherwise.
Open the root folder and click on the settings icon on the top right corner. (It can be different for other Control panels).
Once you have clicked it, it will show a pop-up window. You need to click on the Show Hidden Files(dotfiles) box to check it.
Refresh the page.
Now Let’s get back to the part to find .htaccess file.
